The words that make a draft read as machine-written, and what to write instead

Anyone who reads a lot of AI-written text learns to spot the same handful of words. A draft delves into a rich tapestry, leverages a robust solution, and it is important to note that things are pivotal. None of these is wrong. Together they read as filler, and readers who spot it stop trusting the page. This tool marks them so you can cut or replace them before you publish.

What it checks

  • Words that models use far more often than people do: delve, tapestry, pivotal, leverage, robust, seamless and similar.
  • Stock phrases that add length and no meaning: "in today's fast-paced world", "it is important to note", "plays a crucial role", "look no further".
  • Transition tics: moreover, furthermore, additionally. One is fine. A paragraph of them is a pattern.

The result is a count per 1,000 words, because one "robust" in a long article matters far less than five in a short one. Every flagged term comes with a plainer alternative to try.

This is not an AI detector

It cannot tell you who wrote a text, and no tool can do that reliably. People write "moreover" too, and a model can be told to avoid every word on this list. What it measures is the style itself, which is what a reader notices whether a person or a model produced it. A clean result means the text has none of these tells, not that it is human-written.

How to fix a flagged draft

  • Cut first. Most flagged phrases can simply be deleted, and the sentence gets stronger.
  • Replace with the plain word. "Use" instead of "leverage", "important" instead of "pivotal".
  • Add what only you know. A real number, a real example or a real opinion does more than any rewording.

Frequently asked

Will removing these words stop Google treating my content as AI-generated?

Google has said it ranks content by whether it is helpful, not by how it was produced. Removing filler makes a page better to read, which is the part you control.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The text is checked in your browser and never sent to a server.
